Why host students? |
||||||
|
Our hosts find accommodating students is a
rewarding experience, not only for the extra money it brings in, but also
for the contact it gives them with young people of different
nationalities. Hosts with children in particular benefit from
meeting children from other cultures, and often long-lasting friendships
spring up. |

What's involved? |
||||||
|
Once you have expressed an interest, then the homestay co-ordinator for
your area will arrange a visit. They will check your accommodation and
where the student will stay to ensure it meets our standards, and also
find out more about you, such as your occupation, interests, pets,
and number of children you have. This helps us to build a profile for when
we come to match you with a student. You will also have the opportunity to
ask any questions. Once you have been approved, our co-ordinators will let
you know dates and venues for our courses and start to place students with
you. During the student’s stay, the homestay co-ordinator will deal
with any situations that arise and ensure that you and the student have an
enjoyable experience. Payment is usually made half-way through the stay, but during busy times there can be a delay. An additional payment is provided if students have particular dietary requirements. Payments to hosts are made directly to your bank account via BACS. |

Homestay centres |

EASTBOURNE Eastbourne is a well established and popular centre for students, who usually study at St Andrew's School in Meads or Eastbourne College. Bus passes are provided for Eastbourne College and, for St Andrew’s, we provide private transport. Our homestay co-ordinators are Pauline Lorence, Zoe Harris and Sue Stork. Students have hot meals at the centres, so only require packed lunches on Saturday excursions. BATH Bath is a popular centre for students who usually study at Prior Park College. Bus passes or private transport are provided between homestay accommodation and the centre. Our homestay co-ordinator is Ellie Thomas. Students have hot meals at the centre, so only require packed lunches on Saturday excursions. In Bath Elac hosts adult as well as teenage students. |

Safeguarding students |
||||||
| Some Elac staff have received Level 3 training regarding safeguarding and protecting children and young people. All homestay accommodation is visited prior to students being placed with them, and are required to provide ID and sign a letter stating that there is no reason why they, or other adults in the household, should not host students. All homestay hosts will require an enhanced DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check and references will also be taken prior to students being placed. Families are then re-visited every two years. | ||||||
