Elac Easter course 2017

Our Easter programme in Eastbourne College provides students with fantastic opportunities to practise and improve their English and learn about British culture in a truly authentic learning environment.  There are also opportunities to integrate with English teenagers in some of the afternoon activities.

In the mornings, our students will have daily English classes in mixed-nationality groups – a total of 30 hours over the course.  A level test is given to students on the first day to ensure that they are placed in the correct class.  Like our summer courses, there is a focus on activating our student’s English and practising their communication skills.

Elac's new video film

The New Year saw the foundation of Elac Education Trust, a charitable organisation established by Elac directors to carry out not-for-profit work in English language training.  The first initiative is to set up a programme of summer camps overseas aimed at students who can’t afford to join our UK programmes.
Elac Principal and charity Trustee, Andrew McPhee, recently visited our partners in Israel to discuss plans for the inaugural Trust programme in August this year.  He met with (from left) the Mayor of Iksal, the Principal of the school where the course will be based and the English liaison teacher.
“We are very excited to be launching this programme in the Arab community in Israel,” said Andrew.  The plan is to send over 11 Elac staff for two weeks and provide an intensive programme of language training and activities for around 150 children.  The children are selected by the local school according to criteria agreed with Elac.

“One of the first decisions we made,” says Andrew, “was to work hand in hand with our partners, as they have the local knowledge necessary to ensure the programme is a success and achieves its goals.  In future, we will diversify the ways in which the Trust fulfils its mission, but these intensive programmes, which are our area of expertise, will remain the cornerstone of the Trust’s work.”

Staff changes at Elac

Tim Cooke has recently become a Director of Elac alongside Andrew McPhee and John Dunster.
Tim has worked for Elac for 14 years and has been the Director of Operations since 2011.

Kera Gustafson has also joined the permanent Elac management team and is relocating to Bath to start working as Elac’s Academic Manager.
Among other responsibilities, she will be involved in teacher recruitment, the academic programme and the running of short courses at the Bath Study Centre.

New Elac Residential Centre at Bath Spa University for Summer 2015

Next summer we are pleased to announce that we will be welcoming students to our new centre at Bath Spa University where we will be offering residential courses.
Bath Spa University is an exceptionally beautiful and historic campus, just a short distance from the centre of the city of Bath.  Our students will have access to state-of-the-art teaching facilities, great outdoor spaces for sports and activities as well as being hosted in quality university accommodation.

Italian group at Elac Study Centre 

Our most recent group to the new Elac Study Centre in Bath were students from the National College ‘Vittorio Emanuele II’ in Naples, Italy.
At the beginning of April they stayed with our English hosts in Bath for an exciting week of immersion in English culture.
They will remember the experience with their trips up and down Milsom Street and visits to its many shops, cooking Italian food for their hosts, the open-air school play they performed by the river, and of course, their trip to London.

Mexico comes to Elac Eastbourne

Our first group of Mexican students have just spent two sunny weeks at our Eastbourne centre.  It was a great experience for both staff and students and we hope it will be the start of many more courses with students from Mexico.
The group attended communicative English lessons in the morning and enjoyed sports and craft activities in the afternoons and evenings.
They also visited London and Brighton and had fun at the Harry Potter Studios, London as well as spending time on the beach and at Beachy Head.

The new Bath Elac Study Centre

On 13th February, Elac celebrated the official opening of the new Bath Elac Study Centre with a gathering of staff, partners, friends and providers in Milsom Street at our Head Office.  We want to thank everyone who came and shared the event with us.

The Study Centre is already bustling with our second Spanish group of the year. We look forward to welcoming many more groups in the months and years ahead!

The Elac Study Centre

Last week we said farewell to our first group at the Elac Study Centre in Milsom Street.
The Spanish group from Valladolid came to Bath for just over a week and enjoyed a mixture of communicative English classes, Christmas activities, including ice skating and a trip to the Christmas market, a visit to a local school and excursions to nearby places of interest.
